The trifold Model posing card / Model posing guide!
Designed for Photographers but great for models
too!
I have created the posing card / posing guide above from a handful of basic poses I use on a
regular basis. The posing card is designed to easily be carried in your camera bag! Made to last from 100# card
stock! The back of the posing card / posing guide includes the three most important manual camera settings. By
learning these settings you will dramatically improve your photography (NO MORE AUTO SETTINGS FOR YOU)! The first
folded page, you will see 4 photos of a model on location with a small photo on a white background. This is an
example of a simple basic pose in use on location.
What's inside
of the posing guide?
Here you will find 18 of the basic poses I like to use. These are great starting points to refer
to and help you pose models with ease! Each pose can be modified to suit your particular shooting style.
HOW TO USE THE POSING CARD / POSING
GUIDE!
How it works for me: I will look at the model and choose the pose I think would look best for
her. I pose her in a beginning basic pose as shown on the posing card / posing guide. I do my best to choose the
perfect camera angle and start shooting. Once I've started, I simply make minor adjustments to the pose to get a
variety of great shots. Starting with one basic pose, changing camera angles and slightly adjusting the model will
result in having several great shots from one simple starting point! Having a starting point really helps! Once you
start using Jerry's posing guide you will find that making simple little adjustments will create amazing images
your way!
This card will help you for years to come and pay for
itself your first session!

A little bit about how I came up with the posing card.
Way back when, I got a job shooting a clothing line for an Asian
import clothing company. Up to this point, photography was only a hobby for me. When the client asked if I could
shoot his line, I said "no problem" BOY WAS I WRONG!!! He said that he would like the clothing shot with models! I
really didn't have much experience shooting models at this point. In a panic I started to grab every magazine I
could to learn what I had to do to pull this off. My first model shoot the client was also there. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!
I was nervous which made the model nervous and the client suspicious. I did the best I could, often excusing myself
for a minute, sneaking over to the stack of magazine clippings I had stashed looking for new ideas. I fumbled
through the session and managed a few good shots. After that day I put some serious effort into finding a list of
poses that were easy starting points to work from. The next session with the client was much easier and had much
better results. However not very proud of my results, I did my best and got through it. I kept my little stack of
magazine clippings for quite awhile after that, referring to them often. The more I used a basic starting point,
the more I started to remember these simple basic poses. Once the basics became second nature to me, I started
modifying them and experimenting a little more. I soon learned that I could get several amazing poses from one
simple starting point resulting in several great shots from one pose! Recently a friend of mine asked me if I could
help him learn to pose models better. As you probably already know, this is not something I can tell you. The only
way to really learn is by doing. I DO NOT want to tell anyone “this is how you do it”! I would much rather give you
the basic information for you to CREATE YOUR OWN STYLE and grow from! So with that said, I decided to go back to
the very beginning, asking myself, “What would have helped me get through that first model session nightmare?” I
then created the Basic posing card with everything I feel is needed to keep it simple while still informative and
useful. Remember, the more you know, the more efficient you become, resulting in a reputation for knowing what your
doing and getting paid accordingly for all your hard work! I really hope this helps you in creating better images
and that you progress much faster than I did!
Good luck & Keep shooting, Jerry Southworth
